About Emerging Communities
EMERGING Communities is a Community Based Development Organization (CBDO) in Minneapolis neighborhoods. EMERGING Communities will pursue a mission to advance employment equity in Minneapolis. We are focused on advancing equity and opportunities for youth and adults of color and immigrant communities through place-based work in North and South Minneapolis, and in particular majority BIPOC neighborhoods challenged by concentrated poverty and persistent un- and under-employment.
EMERGING Communities aligns closely with EMERGE’s newest strategic plan, focusing on equity and amplifying the power of community to realize racial equity and economic prosperity. Emerging Communities will serve as a vehicle to create lasting change by supporting communities with high barriers to economic mobility, reducing systemic barriers to wealth-building, working for wage equity, and conducting unflinching evaluation of services and programs.

Our Key Objectives
- Expand social enterprise businesses and leverage community assets.
- Deepen investment in core Minneapolis neighborhoods to advance equity.
- Offer workforce services, financial coaching, and training for in-demand careers.
- Create impactful employer partnerships for high-quality jobs.
- Enhance programming for youth and New American communities.
Emerging Communities is intentional about building new partnerships to advance equity and engagement to reach underserved communities in Minneapolis. In doing so, we intend to partner with the following community organizations whom align with our vision and will help advance the work:
- Al Maa’uun is a North Minneapolis organization that grew out of Masjid An-Nur, a multicultural Islamic faith center with a long track record of serving the Northside community. Ultimately, Al Maa’uun was created as a community serving program offering job training, reentry services, basic needs support and mental health services.
- COPAL Minnesota is a member based organization in South Minneapolis that works to improve the quality of life of Latine families in Minnesota. Over the past five years, COPAL has become well known for its engagement and social action to empower residents with agency and opportunities.
- RiverNorth Foundation is an effort to bring equity-centered economic development and job creation to the North Minneapolis riverfront. In addition to spearheading new developments that are attracting tech-based manufacturers, RiverNorth has developed a workforce engagement initiative that is training/coaching/readying companies to undertake strategies to employ North Minneapolis residents in their future workforce.
- The Cedar-Riverside Opportunity Center and Cedar Riverside Partnership convenes a broad group of organizations that cooperate on initiatives for neighborhood benefit.
