In recent weeks, many of the individuals and families EMERGE is engaged with have experienced sudden and unexpected disruption due to ICE enforcement activity in our community. When a loved one is detained or afraid to go to work, households can lose critical income overnight. For families already living on the margins, these disruptions quickly become a crisis.

Community members who were stable just weeks ago are now struggling to pay rent. Utility shutoff notices are arriving. Families are making impossible choices between keeping the lights on, buying groceries, or covering medical needs. These are hardworking people who want nothing more than to keep their children safe and housed—but they cannot do it alone.

That’s why we are urgently asking for your help.

EMERGE is creating an Emergency Rental & Utilities Fund to provide immediate, practical support to participants facing financial hardship. With your generosity, we can:
Cover rent or prevent an eviction
Pay essential utilities like heat, electricity, and water
Offer short‑term financial relief while families regain stability

Today, January 23rd, EMERGE will stand in solidarity with immigrant communities across Minnesota by supporting the ICE OUT statewide “Day of Truth and Freedom.”

On this day, local guilds, unions, businesses, faith leaders, and nonprofits are calling on all community members to take part in a collective action: no school, no work, and no shopping as a powerful demonstration of support for our immigrant neighbors.

To honor this effort and allow our staff to participate fully, our locations will close at noon tomorrow. If you are looking for additional ways to show your support or to connect community members with resources, please refer to the list below.

Donate to Monarca, a coalition network that provides training and resources to community members who want to understand their rights and support immigrants. buff.ly/shjTemY

If you are able, visit immigrant-owned restaurants, which need our support as many have had to limit hours and access due to ICE activity. buff.ly/bp2L79f

Donate to the Women’s Foundation of Minnesota’s Immigrant Rapid Response Fund, a philanthropic effort that provides “fast, community-informed funding to trusted organizations responding on the ground.” buff.ly/MWcfjzg

Provide food support if you are able. See a list of food drives and opportunities to donate.
